Abstract
This paper titled: “biography of sheikh Abdullahi Bin Fodio and the structure of government in his light” aims at finding out the ideas of Sheikh Abdullahi Bin Fodio’s structure of government in his light. The study pinpoints out his biography covering his early life, his educational background, his scholarly works, and political career. The study also highlights the structure of government by sheikh as: the caliphate, wazir, and the Qadi of his time. The researchers use historical approaches in conducting this research. Findings have revealed that Sheikh Abdullahi Bin Fodio through his unique government system in Sokoto Caliphate aimed to create a just and equitable society where the rule of law was upheld. The system was characterized by consultation, accountability, justice, and designed to ensure that the welfare of the people was prioritized.

Abdullahi ɗan Fodiopronunciationⓘ (Arabic: عبد الله بن فودي, romanized:ʿAbd Allāh ibn Fūdī; ca. –), was a prominent Islamic scholar, jurist, poet and theologian, and the first Amir of Gwandu (r. –) and first Grand Vizier of Sokoto. His brother, Usman dan Fodio (–) was the founder of the Sokoto Caliphate. Usman, being more of a scholar than politician, delegated the practical regency of the western part of his empire to Abdullahi and the eastern part to his son Muhammed Bello, who later became the Sultan of Sokoto after his father.[1]
Early life
[edit]Abdullahi was born in in a small village called Maganimi. Unlike his brother and other members of his family, who were of "sparse physique" and lighter-skinned, he was described as being "tall, fat and black".[2]:21 His father, Muhammad bin Uthman, was given the nickname Foduye (later Fodio), which meant a scholar or knowledgeable person in their native Fulfulde. The nickname comes from the Arabic word Faqīh meaning jurist. He belonged to the Toronkawa ('Torodbe' in Fulfulde) clan, known for their rich tradition of Islamic scholarship in the western Sudan.
